  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently knead it, and roll it out to 1 inch thick.
  6. Cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. For the gravy, cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned, then stir in the flour.
  9. Gradually add the milk while stirring, cook until the gravy thickens.
  10. Season with black pepper and cayenne pepper before serving over warm biscuits.
