Filthy Cabbage Lasagna: An Indulgent Twist on Comfort Food

Experience a delightful twist on traditional lasagna with this filthy cabbage version that is both indulgent and satisfying.

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the marinara sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the skillet and stir to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, eggs, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  5. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes until softened. Drain and cool.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a lasagna dish.
  7. Layer cabbage leaves on top of the sauce, then spread a layer of the ricotta mixture. Add another layer of meat sauce.
  8. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce on top.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or spices to the meat sauce.
  • This dish can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
