Southern Banana Pudding

A classic Southern dessert that brings warmth and comfort with every bite.

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, mix sugar, flour, and salt. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually whisk in a bit of the hot mixture, then return to the saucepan. Cook for 2 more minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Allow to cool.
  4. In a serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Whip cream with powdered sugar and spread on top. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using homemade vanilla pudding.
  • Top with crushed vanilla wafers for extra crunch.
